Description

The combat life saver course is designed around the most recent battlefield casualty care offered to our fighting men and women. The class is modified to a civilian level and covers basic wound care, movement of patients, first aid kit set up and deployment, CPR certification, and traumatic wound care are just a few of the topics covered. The class is not designed to certify anyone in the skills of providing care in a pre-hospital setting. The class focuses on the preparation of students to handle potential emergency situations that may arise in settings far away from immediate help by first responders.

Casualties are preventable with proper training

In the aftermath of the Boston Marathon Bombing, research was done that concluded, “Tourniquets and combat gauze work quite effectively for extremity trauma.” In other research done on casualty care, “Hemorrhage is the leading preventable cause of death in trauma and causes 30–40 % of fatalities. Upwards of 67% of these casualties could have potentially survivable wounds had they received basic medical help within 10 minutes and been transported to a level one trauma center within an hour.”

You will learn when medical intervention is appropriate

We not only cover medically necessary techniques to save lives, but we will teach you the critical steps you need to take first in a traumatic event. Hartford Consensus Joint Committee to Create a National Policy to Enhance Survival in Mass Casualty Shooting Events views hemorrhage control as “second only to engaging and defeating the shooter and as key to improving the survival of victims of active shooter incidents”, describing external hemorrhage control as “the critical step” in eliminating preventable pre-hospital death.
